Background
Hauser & Wirth was founded in 1992 in Zurich by Iwan Wirth, Manuela Wirth and Ursula Hauser, who were joined in 2000 by Partner and President Marc Payot and CEO Ewan Venters in 2020. A family business with a global outlook, Hauser & Wirth has expanded over the past 30 years to include outposts in Hong Kong, London, New York, Southampton, Los Angeles, Somerset, Menorca, Monaco, Zurich, Gstaad, and St. Moritz. The gallery represents over 90 artists and estates who have been instrumental in shaping its identity, and who are the inspiration for Hauser & Wirth’s diverse range of activities that engage with art, education, conservation, and sustainability.
Core Objective
Consolidate these disparate websites onto a single, unified platform. This aims to drastically improve the content management workflow for internal users.
Establish foundational brand and design consistency for external users, without an initial full redesign.
Enable the effective day-to-day evolution of the gallery's digital presence by providing the internal team with a manageable system for easy content creation and site support.
How we did it
Task 1: get a brief and understanding of the ask. It was not a redesign, but to unify the design into a simple and consistent UX/UI and to raise the level of interaction with some elegant ‘wow factor’ interactions
Task 2: review a new ‘Atomic Design System’ generated in Figma by a previous Design Lead and make any changes (if any needed)
Task 3: review all several websites and identify key components to build (around 75+)
Task 4: Work with product + dev to create a JIRA backlog based on a 2-week operating model, starting with creating atoms and then some of the simplest yet key components used frequently
Task 5: Create some enhanced moments of delight though subtle interaction.
